Roblox launches in-experience subscriptions, TikTok tests adding Google results into its search, Unity revamps its proposed pricing model
Happy Monday! That is, unless you’re a Swiftie who resold your Taylor Swift tickets for a profit.. Ticketmaster just turned over all resale data to the IRS, who naturally are demanding their cut of the spoils 👮
🌶 Daily highlight 🌶
Roblox rolled out the ability to create and sell in-experience subscriptions. Having amassed a user base of 50+ million DAUs, Roblox is increasingly focusing on monetizing its most highly engaged users 💰
Just a few months after launching it’s own version of NFTs, Roblox’s latest move continues down the path of leveraging developer creativity to unlock new revenue – both for creators as well as Roblox itself.
With subscriptions, Roblox has made a fun choice to pay developers in ‘Robux’, its virtual currency, despite charging users in local currency. Given Roblox takes a spread on conversions, it’s effectively charging an added fee when developers cash out.
With its stock price down ~50% in the past few months, it’s no surprise that Roblox is being aggressive in this way 🧨
