Robinhood pushes on, Google Search tests sheets, Zuck loses a buck
Hello there! For the first time since 2015, Mark Zuckerberg is no longer one of the ten richest people in America. Zuck's come in at no.11 this year, and Forbes' press release says it all - "No one in America has lost as much money over the past year as Zuckerberg". Ouch.
Wait... They shipped what!?
Robinhood is rolling out it's non-custodial crypto wallet in beta, opening up access to 10,000 users on it's waitlist.
Backstory: After rolling out a custodial crypto wallet earlier this year, the new non-custodial wallet gives users full control (and responsibility) over their private keys.
Details: Robinhood Wallet is the company's first internationally available app.
The wallet is launching on Polygon, a layer-2 Ethereum scaling solution
Users can access dApps and metaverse games on Polygon
There will be no network or gas fees for transactions
Why it matters: Despite the downturn in crypto land, Robinhood continues to double down on new web3 product launches. Later this year, the wallet will get an NFT marketplace integration.
What's notable about Robinhood's strategy is that they're not charging network or gas fees for transactions. This differentiates the wallet from competitors such as MetaMask and Coinbase, and suggests that Robinhood is viewing the wallet as an accelerant to crypto trading volumes (which the company does make money off).
