Sleep Paywalls

Eight Sleep paywalls core functionality, Meta rolls out Messenger games, Earned launches a physician wealth product

Happy Friday! How did JP Morgan realize its $175m acquisition of college financial platform Frank was a sham? After a marketing email to 400k of Frank's customers resulted in only 103 opens 😂 Sparing a thought for that marketing manager's initial reaction...

🌶 Highlight of the day 🌶

Eight Sleep, a sleep technology company, paywalled core hardware functionality behind an annual subscription. Annual memberships are now a mandatory inclusion for all mattress purchases, and basic features such as temperature automation and alarm vibration now fall within the subscription 💵🐮

The trend of consumer hardware companies paywalling features behind a subscription continues. Given the likes of Oura have paywalled core sleep tracking functionality, it's no wonder people now need a membership for their own bed 😴
