It's Stacking Up

Substack launches a Twitter competitor, Meta announces generative-AI ads, Google Play requires easy data deletion

Good morning! Twitter has added a "state-affiliated media" warning label to NPR, adding it to the likes of Russia's RT and China's Xinhua. Who from NPR pissed off Elon? 🤭

🌶 Highlight of the day 🌶

Substack unveiled Notes, a Twitter competitor. Users can publish posts that appear in a new dedicated tab. Substack claims it won't run ads, which if true means the logic is two-fold: (1) convert casual readers into paying subs; and (2) create on-platform engagement that drives network effects (recommendations) to build a competitive moat 🌊
