I'm gettin' automated

Interpol launches a metaverse, Lex generates AI articles, Apple gets into smart locks

Happy Tuesday! Interpol launched a metaverse for law enforcement, where users can visit Interpol HQ, get training, and chat with other cop avatars. I'm guessing Do Kwon, the Luna founder currently on the run from an Interpol red alert, probably won't be signing up just yet...

Wait... They shipped what!?

Every shipped Lex, an AI-powered word processor for writers.

Details: Lex is a minimalist version of Google Docs that's powered by GPT-3.

After writing a few paragraphs, Lex's AI auto-generates a few more. Users can provide direction, such as typing "generate counter-arguments", in which case Lex spits out rebuttals to the document. Lex also helps brainstorm title ideas to increase click rates.

Why it matters: AI-generated images are getting lots of hype, but AI-generated text will be more impactful, as language is integral to the flow of information online.

As someone who writes a newsletter, Lex is super exciting. Even if I have to make many edits, AI brainstorming and auto-generated text can help me get more done in less time.

SEO content is an obvious early use case, and work environments will be the next iteration - particularly those where folks spend lots of time writing docs. It's no wonder that students are already using AI to write essays.

If you're interested: I'll be trying Lex, Jasper, and a few other similar tools over the next few weeks. Hit reply and let me know if you'd like me to send you a separate email about how the experience goes!
