DoorDash launches "guaranteed hourly minimum rate", Unity ships an AI-software marketplace, Proton launches a password manager

Good morning! Think you’ve had a rough week? Spare a thought for Sony’s legal team who used a sharpie to redact highly sensitive info in a court hearing, but subsequently didn’t realize that all the redacted text was clearly legible after scanning the docs … 🤦

🌶 Highlight of the day 🌶

DoorDash launched a “guaranteed hourly minimum rate” feature for its delivery workers. Dashers can now choose to “Earn Per Offer”, aka the status quo, or to “Earn by Time”, whereby Dashers receive a minimum hourly rate as well as 100% of tips on top 🚚

Anything resembling hourly pay is a major shift in how DoorDash comps workers, aligning much more with a traditional employee model.

Coming just a few weeks after NYC announced a $18 delivery worker minimum wage, I read this as a defensive play designed to future-proof the business against similar legislation in other geographies 🌍
