Telly ships free ad-supported TVs, Open AI launches a ChatGPT convo sharing feature, Apple launches Tap to Pay in the UK

Happy Monday! A Slack alternative that goes by the name Threads saw over a million downloads after Instagram shipped it’s Twitter competitor. The OG Threads had to add a “We’re not associated with IG” badge to its landing page, although ironically it’s founder was previously a PM at Facebook 🧙

🌶 Daily highlight 🌶

Telly shipped its first free ad-supported TVs. The TVs are free of charge for users, with ads displayed 24/7 on the smaller screen at the bottom of the TV. The second screen is also the TV’s control center, meaning that if users obscure or cover it, they’ll find it harder to use the TV 🙃

Telly saw more than 250k orders in its first two weeks of pre-launch, so there’s clearly a market here. Given the ever-present search for more eyeballs, I’d be surprised if more consumer electronics products don’t eventually go the same route 💻
