Double or Nothing

Twitter nukes access, ByteDance launches a music creation app, 1Password launches in-app family account management

Happy Independence Day 🇺🇸 🇺🇸 Hope you were able to rest, spend time with friends and family, and enjoy the weekend!

In other news, Open AI’s had to pause the ChatGPT <> Bing integration, as users were able to access paywalled content by asking ChatGPT to provide a URLs full text 📝

🌶 Daily highlight 🌶

Twitter rolled out multiple features to limit access to its platform. Blue Subscribers are now limited to reading 6,000 posts per day, while non-subscribers can only read 600. Unregistered users can no longer access Twitter, and must create an account to view tweets 🧨

While Musk says its because AI companies were scraping its data, the moves are clearly designed to increase new signups and paid conversion. Both features are short-sighted, but in particular limiting free users to 600 views per day seems like a phenomenal way to kill power user engagement.

At a time when countless competitors are propping up, Twitter’s taking on major strategic risk in the name of short-term revenue 🤔
