Beware the zap

Zapier makes moves, Google Pixel goofs it, Lord of the Rings goes web3

If you're gonna troll Tim Cook, do it right. The Google Pixel team responded to a tweet from Tim by throwing shade and telling users to switch to #TeamPixel. Only problem? The tweet had a "Twitter for iPhone" label on it, giving away the Pixel team's true device of choice đŸ˜‚ Not the most fun way to go viral, I'm sure...

Wait... They shipped what!?

Zapier launched a database service and a UI builder.

Details: Zapier shipped the two new products as part of its new Early Access program.

Tables is an automation-first competitor to Google Sheets and Airtable, in that it focuses on ensuring Zapier workflows don't break when changes are made to the database.

Interfaces lets users create basic web pages that work with Zapier. Drag-and-drop functionality makes it easy to build forms, edit data, and launch automation triggers.

Why it matters: Zapier wants to move beyond a sole focus on automation to owning more of the end-to-end stack.

It's bad news for the likes of Airtable, who's database-spreadsheet software is commonly used in conjunction with Zapier automations. In the new world, it's a lot simpler and more efficient to just use Zapier, which now does both jobs.

Similarly but to a lesser degree, someone setting up a basic website with a form that triggers automations may no longer need the likes of a Weebly or Wix. Having said that, Zapier Interfaces has a long way to go to seriously challenge popular website builders.
