AMC brings Zoom to cinemas, Netflix launches a game, Instagram rolls out scheduling tools
Happy Wednesday! If you can't get enough of back-to-back Zoom's all day, your dream has come true. AMC's partnering with Zoom to turn movie theatres into big-screen Zoom rooms. Yep you read that right... Now even the most complex Figma flows will fit entirely on one screen!
Wait... They shipped what!?
Netflix launched Triviaverse, an interactive video game.
Backstory: Netflix has been on a gaming binge - they've acquired several studios, announced a foray into cloud gaming, and added over 30 games to the platform.
Netflix had also previously launched Trivia Quest, an interactive animated quiz series.
Details: Triviaverse is a straightforward trivia game for Netflix users. Highlights include:
Available on all devices, with remote as controller on TV
Categories such as pop culture, history, and science
Single-player or two-player mode
Global rollout, available in nine languages
Why it matters: It's surprising that the game doesn't focus on Netflix content, let alone that it goes beyond movies and TV. Netflix is approaching this problem with a blank slate, and is avoiding shoving its square video content into a round gaming hole.
Triviaverse is a fairly basic game that screams minimum viable test. They're looking to gauge user interest in playing games on Netflix for gaming's sake alone, as opposed to playing because of the content underpinning a game.
If the test succeeds, we may see a bigger split between gaming and videos on Netflix.
