AI Tiles

Spotify brings the vibes, cash is king, AI gets crafty

Welcome back! Friday was a markets bloodbath - unless your portfolio is 100% orange juice, you're likely a few dollars poorer. One silver lining was that Wealthfront increased their APY to 2.55%, meaning that $50k in the bank now earns over $100 / month. Sadly I'm not sponsored by Wealthfront đŸ˜¢, but I'll gladly take every basis point to keep up the good fight against inflation.

Wait... They shipped what!?

Stable Diffusion, an AI image generator, has a new add-on that lets users easily create tiled and textured patterns.

Backstory: Stable Diffusion lets users create images like the above by simply typing in a few words. Within a month of launch, the company's already amassed over a million users.

AI generated images have began crushing us mere mortals in art competitions. Proponents argue that the likes of Stable Diffusion create new efficiencies and opportunities, while many artists beg to differ.

Why it matters: The new 'Dream Textures' add-on makes it cheap and easy to generate standard 2D wallpapers, as well as 3D gaming-style backgrounds. It's hard to see how over-time, generative AI art doesn't materially eat away at demand for human-generated stock photos.

If innovations like this are happening less than a month after Stable Diffusion's launch, what are we in for over the next few decades?!
